What’s New in the Jewellery Quarter?
This past month has stemmed a lot of new places opening within the Jewellery Quarter so we thought we would compile a list of them all so you can tick off which of them you have been to so far and which you intend to go to very soon.
The Chocolate Quarter
This sweet addition to the Jewellery Quarter arrived late last year and has already made quite a splash. The family-run business keeps on adding new chocolates to their collection, as well as specials for every occasion, a dairy-free selection in their mist and a chance to go on a chocolate experience. With that and everything from pure hot chocolate to truffles and ganache, why would you not go and give them a visit, we might even see you there!
Saint Pauls House
In the building that is situated on St Paul’s Square now reigns the boutique hotel, bar and restaurant, aptly named, Saint Pauls House. Although there is the quirky cool of Shoreditch, Saint Pauls House encompasses all that is good about the Jewellery Quarter. So whether you are seeking an alcoholic beverage, a steak dinner or a bed for the night in Birmingham’s most affluent area, this is the place to do it all!
Upstairs Downstairs
With the unique aspect of having a coffee shop Upstairs and a bar Downstairs, this new hidden gem within the Jewellery Quarter is bringing even more panache into the area. The hidden gem aspect is heightened with the fact that the Downstairs has its own secret entrance, as well as artistically made cocktails, exposed brickwork and very beautifully looking chandeliers. The Upstairs has a vibe that is said to be reminiscent of a New York coffee shop that serves a mean coffee.
The Floating Spa
Seeking a beauty treatment that is a little different? The Floating Spa may be able to offer you just that. The Jewellery Quarter welcomed Birmingham’s first floating spa a little over a month ago and it is causing quite a stir. The feeling of floating weightlessly in a bath filled with salt-rich water that is heated to match that of your skin temperature is said to melt away all stresses and anxieties of everyday life. Who needs a massage when you can float?
Ana Rocha Bar and Gallery
Ever wanted to grab a few tapas dishes, listen to some live music, buy some art and have a cocktail? You can do just that when you go to Ana Rocha Bar and Gallery, located on Frederick St. The newly opened place is receiving rave reviews and we cannot wait to go check it out. Leave it to the Jewellery Quarter to house a place where you can have a tipple and buy some fine art!
The Pig & Tail
The husband and wife team that own The Pickled Piglet on Gas Street in Birmingham, have recently opened their second venture The Pig & Tail. The building used to house the George and Dragon Pub, which is said to be one of the oldest and most historic pubs in Birmingham, but it is now the edgy and ambiguous bar and eatery that also has an outdoor eating and drinking area. They have an array of drinks and sharing style food that they hope takes away the “snootiness” of the usual three courses. With a slogan like “sharing is caring”, we will meet you at the bar!
1000 Trades
So far we have had the addition of a chocolate-lovers paradise, a quaint but quirky bar, boutique hotel and restaurant, as well as a unique coffee shop/bar, a floating spa, a gallery come bar and a bar/eatery that is perfect for sharing, so what could possibly be left? Well, a craft beer and wine bar of course! The independent bar housed within the grade 11-listed premises will not only be serving craft beer and glasses of wine but also boxes of wine, which they are hoping to swipe the naff image out of. We are intrigued, aren’t you?
The Button Factory
Last but not least is The Button Factory, in the building that used to be Vertu and 192 years ago a button factory, hence the name. The new bar opens today and is said to have incredible views from the balcony, will house a theatre-style kitchen and the owners want the venue to have something for everyone. We cannot wait to attend the launch event on the 22nd June, will we see you there?
The new additions to the Jewellery Quarter continue to astound and amaze us and we look forward to seeing what else is due to appear.
