Unsure of what’s on in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter in July? Well look no further; we’ve compiled the top 10 events taking place in the JQ this month, and you won’t want to miss them…

1. JQ Festival | 20-22 July

Where: The Golden Square, 120 Vyse St

A big event in the JQ next month is the JQ Festival, featuring all types of Jewellery Quarter businesses. Make sure to catch the ‘Brewery Quarter’, a team made up of JQ’s own 1000 Trades, The Indian Brewery and more. And if you’re a bit of a whisky connoisseur, don’t miss the tasting sessions hosted by the Birmingham Whisky Club (event link here). 2. Homebrew Challenge | 24 July

Where: 1000 Trades, 16 Frederick St

Think you’ve got what it takes to be crowned JQ’s best homebrewer of 2018? Birmingham Amateur Brewers and JQ’s 1000 Trades are teaming up to host this exciting competition where the winner gets a prize! It’s free to enter, so what are you waiting for? Deliver your entry to 1000 Trades by 23rd July at the latest, and judging will take place on 24th.

3. Quality Reggae Roots | 1 July

Where: Actress & Bishop, 36 Ludgate Hill

Don’t miss this Sunday night of reggae at the lively Actress & Bishop with Culture Collective, a 7-piece roots/rock/reggae band from Moseley. And, if you’re lucky enough to not have an early start on Monday, there’ll be a DJ going till 2am… keeping it JQ!

4. World Cup in the JQ | until 15 July

Where: Throughout the Jewellery Quarter

5. Opening of Hive Heritage Hub | 21 July

Where: Hive Cafe & Bakery, 43-47 Vittoria St

The new and exciting Hive Heritage Hub is open from 21st July for you to visit! The Hub, located at the Hive Cafe in the JQ, is a new visitor information & creative space for heritage exhibitions & activities in the Jewellery Quarter. Explore hidden histories and galleries about the JQ with free entry!

The Hive Cafe itself is also well worth a visit, serving dishes made with ingredients homegrown in a microfarm above the kitchen, resulting in a menu that changes daily depending on what is the best produce. Don’t miss out on this gem in the heart of the JQ!

 

6. I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky | 1 & 29 July

Where: 1000 Trades, 16 Frederick St

We Don’t Know What It Is, But 1000 Trades is the place to be in July, hosting two live funk music nights with DJ Stig both at the beginning and end of the month! Playing from 3-6pm, DJ Stig’s funky beats and a Sunday roast are the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Or enjoy with a drink to prolong the impending Monday blues…

7. Songs & Scenes: Twelfth Night | 17 July

Where: The Blue Orange Theatre, 118 Great Hampton Street

This innovative adaptation of the well-known Shakespeare play in the JQ is a must-see for all theatre-lovers or novices! Presented by the Willmore Singers, this unique edition of Twelfth Night uses music from the Renaissance period to create a magical one-hour performance.

8. #CraftyThursdays | 5, 12, 19 & 26 July

Where: The Wolf, 2-10 Constitution Hill

9. Ibiza Night | 7, 14, 21 & 28 July

10. The Red Lemons | 13 July

Where: The Jam House

Don’t miss this Friday night of talented musicians coming together to perform a vast range of soul & funk favourites from the likes of Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder to Alicia Keys, Duffy, and Plan B. Hosted at the renowned Jam House, The Lemons will be on stage at 11pm, and the DJ keeps the whole night partying until 2am! The Jam House also serve food a-la-carte until 9.45pm in the restaurant.
