The Wilderness has shared a heartfelt message reflecting on its Michelin star, with Alex Claridge opening up about the personal significance of the achievement and thanking everyone who has supported the restaurant’s journey.

For the Jewellery Quarter restaurant, the announcement was a major milestone. But as Alex explains in an update titled “MICHELIN | THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE”, finding the words to describe what it meant has taken time.

A personal achievement behind the celebrations

Since receiving the award in Dublin, The Wilderness has shared photographs of its food and the team responsible for its success. Behind those celebrations, Alex says he has needed space to process an achievement that has been deeply personal.

Guests have continued to ask how he feels about the recognition. His latest message offers an honest response: bringing home a star has meant a great deal, even if he has struggled to express it publicly.

Reflecting on that feeling, Alex describes the award as:

“a remarkably important, personal and (until this point) private achievement”

His message also acknowledges a long silence on his blog, where he has previously shared his thoughts on the realities of running a restaurant.

In a twist he finds ironic, his previous post, written in January 2025, explored Michelin and his hopes for sister restaurant Albatross. The eventual recognition for The Wilderness was a welcome surprise.

A thank you to the people behind the journey

At the heart of the update is gratitude.

Alex pays tribute to everyone who has played a part in The Wilderness’s story, from the team delivering the experience to the guests who have supported its vision.

The title, The Power of Persistence, gives that message its focus. The Michelin star marks an important moment in a journey built around a clear idea of what the restaurant should be.

A distinctive part of the Jewellery Quarter

On Warstone Lane, The Wilderness brings its own personality to the Jewellery Quarter’s dining scene. Alex Claridge’s restaurant combines inventive tasting menus with a restored factory setting and a soundtrack spanning rock, punk and heavy metal.

That individual approach makes its success particularly welcome locally. In a neighbourhood shaped by independent businesses, creativity and craftsmanship, there is plenty to celebrate when a restaurant with such a distinctive identity earns recognition.

Our congratulations go to Alex and the whole Wilderness team, alongside everyone who has contributed to the journey.
