The Frederick Street Townhouse opened in 2019 after renovating the beautiful Grade II listed building next door to their sister company The Button Factory. Those familiar with the Jewellery Quarter will know all about this venue, famous for its busy rooftop bar area on sunnier days.
The FST is a guest house with 5 beautiful rooms, ranging from a £79 Classic Single Room to the £159 for the Junior Suite. The reason it’s a guest house and not a hotel is because it doesn’t have a 24/7 manned reception. The manager is on call 24/7 and usually based in The Button Factory next door.
The renovation has been very sympathetic to the original features and each room is unique in its colour scheme, furnishings and artwork. The concept, like most of the Mosaic venues across the country, is to have a “home from home” feel.
This is certainly true in the fact the interior decor is far less bland than most hotels, but to say this is was your average home would be underselling it by far. The Junior Suite I stayed in was very well designed and certainly larger than most rooms in the average house. Very tall windows, high ceiling and a beautiful bath within the room, with a separate shower and toilet.
It had lots of room for a King Size bed, sofa, chair, coffee table, desk, everything you would want in a luxury inner-city apartment. The only thing missing is a kitchen, which simply isn’t needed with everything being on your doorstep.
A continental breakfast is provided as standard and offered next door in The Button Factory from 8-10am.
Located in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, just a 60 second walk from the famous Green JQ clock, you won’t be stuck for places to eat or drink. With the tram and a bank of electric scooters being a short walk away, the city centre is also a very easy option.
The guesthouse has become popular with couples at the weekend, looking for a short break away from the children. Not to mention the business guests during the week who prefer a far less depressing night away from home whilst working.
Now for the more practical aspects of the stay…
Parking
The parking is the same as any hotel in the JQ, it will be on the road paid parking or using one of the local multistorey places on Vyse St or Newhall Hill.
Toiletries
I’m always a sucker for nice toiletries and they don’t disappoint.
