If you haven’t sorted out your plans for this Bank Holiday weekend yet, there’s no need to panic, you still have time to get something sorted in the fantastic Jewellery Quarter. Below, we have compiled a list of some of the events to go to in the Jewellery Quarter for Bank Holiday weekend that we are sure you will all enjoy.
The Rose Villa Tavern
All weekend, the Rose Villa Tavern will be serving a bespoke cocktail menu using a personal favourite of ours, prosecco! If you’re not a fan of prosecco and fancy something casual, they will be serving Westons Rhubarb cider all weekend; perfect to be enjoyed in the sun! Another special that they are running is a weekend-long Happy Hour. From 4pm Friday until closing on Monday, you can enjoy 2 of their fantastic handcrafted cocktails for just £9.
For the Monday they will be hosting their usual Monday quiz night. 6.30pm start and only £1 to enter, (there are some pretty amazing bar tabs to be won!). To top it all off, the Chef is adding some specials to the menu so you can enjoy some of The RVT’s best dishes this Bank Holiday weekend! Did you know that the Rose Villa Tavern is a member of the JQ Card? That means, if you are a cardholder, you can get 10% off anything at any time!
1000 Trades
This weekend at 1000 trades will be a very busy one indeed, with a diverse list of events to keep you entertained all weekend. First, on Friday there is Charlie Bates Sextet presented by Birmingham Jazz. This new show by Charlie will feature many of his own songs and some of Kenny Wheelers as a tribute. Entry is £9 or £5 for members or just £3 for students.
On Saturday there will be their famous NOW HAM which will feature a night of incredible 80s music, which we highly recommend for all disco lovers as the night can get pretty crazy! Following from NOW HAM on Sunday, there will be “Crafty Sip- create your own social” from 2:30-5:30 pm. The event is a fun way to spend a few hours ‘crafting’ with others, allowing you to produce up to two mini creative projects. There are two drinks included in the price of £35 as well as expert guidance. After Crafty sip finishes, there will be Rosco + Friends, which is another fantastic night of disco and alternative 80s sounds.
The Vanguard at 1000 trades
Above 1000 trades, you will find The Vanguard cocktail bar and meadery. This weekend they have something very special planned… a meet the mater session with the original Pornstar Martini maker! Douglas Ankrah will be there for the evening, giving you a little bit of history about the Pornstar and letting you sample his new Pornstar martini Liqueur. Drop in’s are ok but it’s recommended making a reservation. The Vanguard is proudly part of the JQ Card, offering 5% off all day, every day!
Stirlings
This Sunday at Stirlings is something a little different, Deja Vu. This Sunday at Stirlings is something a little different, Deja Vu (do you see what we did there?) From 10pm-3am there will be a mix of music on all 3 levels of Stirlings, such as RNB, funky house, rare groove, reggae anthems, and neo-soul. DJ’s on the night include DJ KB4, DJ Capone, DJ Major Popular, DJ Nev and DJ Kenny D. The dress code is smart/casual but they have asked for no trainers. Tickets are £10 on Skiddle or £15 on the door. In addition to the Rose Villa Tavern, Stirlings is also on the JQ Card, offering 10% off anything at any time!
The Button Factory
As every other bank holiday, Bottomless Bingo returns! Two fat ladies will be putting the balls back into bingo with 2 hours of comedy bingo and as much prosecco as you can handle (within the allowed time), so drink up! You can purchase your tickets online and if the weather is nice then you could stick around at The Button Factory; enjoy some fantastic food and drink on their phenomenal rooftop terrace.
The Lord Clifden
This weekend at the popular Lord Clifden there will be another famous bank holiday weekender! Featuring the UAB street card on Saturday and Sunday as well as 3 bars to be served at, live sports, table football and ping pong! Included in the weekender will be music all weekend from DJs including Soulshake, TLC, UAB Selectors, The Collective and Kitchen Disco! We all went last bank holiday and had a great time, try to order the cider slushy if it’s available.
The Red Lion
This weekend at The Red Lion is for all the football fans! As all of us who live in Birmingham know, Aston Villa will be playing Fulham at Wembley this Saturday in order to gain promotion into the Premier League. If you couldn’t get tickets and are looking for somewhere to watch it, we couldn’t recommend The Red Lion enough. With a welcoming atmosphere and a great selection of drinks, it’s the perfect place to go to support the Villa, or even if you want to cheer on Fulham instead. Following this will be the Champions League Final, as Liverpool take on Real Madrid, we can almost guarantee this will be a game to remember.
The Actress and Bishop
This Sunday at the A&B, there is the return of the Silent Disco! For those who are unsure of what a silent disco is, then let us explain. You will be given wireless headphones on entry to the Actress and Bishop with the option of two channels of music to listen two. Each channel has its own DJ and these two DJ’s will be competing for your attention, each one trying to better the other with their choice of music. We took part last bank holiday and found it hilarious, you all need to try it!
