Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall are set to have two his and hers silver fountain pens presented to them, which have been hand-crafted by Jack Row, a graduate from Birmingham School of Jewellery.

The Royals are due in the Quarter today to glimpse the transformation it is undergoing after obtaining a £2 million funding boost.

The grant, awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is for the restoration of sixteen buildings in the Jewellery Quarter – one of them being the Coffin Works that has recently reopened.

Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall will be given their exclusive, matching pens from Jack Row, who is not only a graduate of the school, but is an award-winning goldsmith.

Hosting the visit will be Vice-Chancellor Professor Cliff Allan.
He commented on the visit: “While Prince Charles attends a briefing to discuss the Jewellery Quarter’s regeneration, the Duchess will be escorted around the school. She will have the chance to meet current staff, students and alumni, while viewing some of the exquisite work currently on display.

Acting head of the Jewellery School, Gaynor Andrews, supplied: “The Royal visit is also an opportunity for us to thank The Prince of Wales for his ongoing support for the area. We look forward to them meeting a number of our star students and alumni, many of whom are reinvesting their skills and expertise back into the local economy by working in the local jewellery industry after graduation.

Chair of the Jewellery Quarter Development, David Mahony, added: “It is exciting times for the Jewellery Quarter.

Our mission is to make the Quarter an area to live, learn, work and visit and it is only with investments such as this that we will be able to accomplish this.

Partners with the trust include Birmingham City Council and English Heritage over the next five or so years.

Who’s excited for the visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall? It’s a brilliant opportunity for the couple to see the Quarter.
