Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

The owners of the Smith & Pepper Jewellery Manufacturing Firm retired in the early 80’s leaving behind a historical wonderland for future generations, that, unbeknownst to them, would be become on of the most popular attractions in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

The proprietors ceased the trading and left behind overalls, used teacups and well-used tools scattered across the benches and worktops.
Even in its glory days, the family owned business hadn’t changed in its eighty years prior to closure – it’s décor having more a 20th-century feel, rather than an early 1980s.

Although today, the family-owned factory is a thriving museum, retelling the Quarter’s history and Birmingham’s acclaimed jewellery and metal work heritage.

On your visit to the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, you can take a guided tour around the Smith & Pepper factory which will take about an hour; the last tour will be an hour before closing time and the maximum number of people allowed on the tour is eighteen.
You will see the museum shop which stocks a range of locally made designer jewellery, you may also be treated to a live demonstration of jewellery making.
