What The Cluck
New to Taste and Liquor’s line-up and new to the street-food scene, What The Cluck are an emerging independent trader. This is fried chicken heaven for hardcore fans. They are a specialist in tender fried chicken strips, all served with fries and their secret gravy. Vegans are also in for a treat as their Cauliflower Bites are a mouth-full of deliciousness! These come with the house ‘WTC’ sauce as standard, although we strongly suggest ordering some extra dips. This is mercilessly messy stuff so don’t go dressed in your date-night finery!
Little Urban BBQ
Ribs, pulled meats, smoky scents and sweet sauces will abound in the JQ, as the smokehouses of America’s Deep South take hold at Taste and Liquor’s Street Food Friday. This Horse Box custom smoker serves up some pretty stunning meat, including their signature beef, pork ribs, burnt ends and an array of sauces, rubs and glazes. All based on recipes and techniques from Kansas City.
Sourced from his grandmother’s recipes, this is beautiful BBQ Jerk Chicken, triple drizzled in peppery hot sauce, and served with fries, coleslaw and a killer jerk gravy. Or turn up the heat and tuck into one of Jamrock’s special Jamaican-style biryani with rice’n’peas, jerk chicken, sweet corn, plantain and homemade pepper pickle. Need a Vegan option? Then sink your teeth into one of their veggie plates of Jam-making-me-crazy goodness!
Full Belly is Birmingham’s first Polish Street Food serving an ever-changing menu in their trusty van. If you love good, honest, hearty food of the land but don’t know where to start, we’d suggest a dip into the world of Full Belly’s Polish offering Pierogi (dumplings). Most cultures have their version of tasty dumplings, from Chinese shumai to Japanese Gyoza. The Polish version is Pierogi, which Full Belly would argue is the best of the lot. It can be served with a savoury filling (mushrooms, potatoes, cheese) or stuffed with sweet fruit; however, minced pork and cabbage is king. Traditionally topped with sour cream or crispy bacon bits and fried onions. Wonderful stuff.
Veeru Da Dhaba
Another emerging independent street-food trader Veeru Da Dhaba will spice up your taste-buds with their Indian-fusion offerings. Inspired by the unique tastes of Indian street cuisine, this husband and wife team brings the very best of Indian street food with a twist. Leaving little excuse not to dive right into platefuls of Spiced Vodka Bel Puri (Crispy Dumplings) and Spicy Lamb Burger served with dipping gravy. Give a warm welcome to these new traders.
Enjoy a mouth-watering selection of fall off the bone chicken cooked on a hot flame roasting spit. Choose from quarter, half or full and have it marinated, steamed and cooked over hot coals of charcoal. We’re personally going to hide away in the corner with one (or two) of their Rebellious Burgers, which use the finest cuts of outdoor reared and grass fed 28-day aged Chuck Steak & Short-Rib Burger. Head inside for this delicious beauty.
So head down to Pitsford Street on Friday to see this exciting addition to the Jewellery Quarter. With two unique inside and outside (fully heated courtyard) eating-and-drinking zones, and a number of delicious Street-Food plates on offer, what more could you want from your Friday night! Doors open from 4.00pm until 11.00pm, and it’s free entry all night. The event is also dog and child friendly.
