We’d like to welcome a new addition to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter: the Eight Foot Grocer!

This brand new, quirky food shop has been opened by Chris James, in a former loading bay which was, you guessed it, eight-feet wide!

Fresh to the Quarter, Chris has plenty of experience working in the food industry. With nearly eight years of working in London in restaurant management under his belt, he decided relocated to Birmingham to pursue his dream of running his very own business enterprise, thus the fruit and veggie store was born.

It’s literally eight-feet wide and it was an old loading bay for a biscuit factory,” he said. “I turned 30 and had dreamed about setting something up for a long time.

Birmingham’s an area that’s on the up and the Jewellery QUarter’s a really exciting place with lots of building going on at the moment.

The Eight Foot Grocer is situated just off St Paul’s Square, adjacent to Braderie vintage shop.
The grocery’s walls are adorned with photography from local artists, and he receives bread deliveries daily from the Quarter’s bakery, Peel and Stone.

Not only does James stock the usual fruit and veg, he also has a collection of jams and marmalades, along with locally made Cufuffle Preserves, Kneals Chocolates and Pip’s Hot Sauce.

Porridge is served for breakfast, and for lunch: salads, cakes and sandwiches.

Chris continued on to say: “When it comes to sourcing the produce, I’m staying as local as possible and if I can’t get it from Britain, I’ll get it from Europe. I’m stocking buts and pieces for people wanting to cook at home and eventually I want to do proper ready meals once I’m up and running.

The Eight Foor Grocer in the Quarter is open all week, excluding Sundays, from 8:00 till 20:00.

The Eight Foot Grocer is another amazing addition to the Quarter and we wish Chris the best of luck!
