There has been a lot of talk of a certain celebrity visiting our dear Jewellery Quarter and splashing out on a pair of gold stilettos.

We are, in fact, talking about Queen Bey who visited the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter at the beginning of this month and bought a £200,000 pair of diamond-encrusted stilettos from House of Borgezie.

Beyoncé, reportedly, is hoping to don the near quarter-million shoes in her latest music video.

However, the Jewellery Quarter has seen a fair few celebrities visiting in past years…

Roman Abramovich, Chelsea FC owner

Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, is guilty for the possession of cufflinks bearing the crest of his football club which were in the five-figure price point.

Sophia Loren, Italian actress

When Loren got engaged to film producer Carlo Ponti, she made towards Birmingham in the mid-50s to have her engagement rings made.

Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunie

It was a goal of the Sultan’s to master the art of flying a plane and once he had done so, he celebrated like anyone else – he went and bought himself a diamond encrusted Harlequin mask.

The mask was purchased through a dealer in London, the mask was crafted under special instruction here.

Lewis Hamilton, Formula 1 racer

The British Racing Drivers’ Club annually presents Gold Star awards to the driver that has had the strongest performance of the year. Hamilton won two of those stars, which were, of course, made in the Jewellery Quarter.

Her Majesty The Queen and HRH the Queen Mother

Her Majesty was presented with a specially designed fan that had been crafted in the Quarter for her Diamond Jubilee three years ago. The late Queen Mother was said to be fond of the area’s craftsmen and on her 85th birthday, she wore an enameled brooch in the colours of her horse’s jockey.

The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, came to the Quarter last year in November to collect two ‘his and hers’ fountain pens hand-crafted for the Royals by Birmingham School of Jewellery graduate, Jack Row.

Eric Clapton, Guitarist

Eric Clapton is known as a supporter of the district having made a selection of purchases from the Quarter.
