An old car park on the fringe of the Jewellery Quarter is set to be developed into an apartment complex.

The car park, also known to called the ‘bomb site’, will be integrated into the Great Charles Square scheme, in Ludgate Hill on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. Long Harbour, based in London are making their initial investment in Birmingham and have announced they will be committed to the 350-unit building, costing £55 million.

The apartments will be available for rent only to the public and will feature studios, as well as two-bedroom units. The name behind 103 Colmore Row and Lumina project, Sterling Property Ventures, is in charge of the development that is, at this present moment, being used as a pay and display car park.

Plans are expected to come to a halt in September; the overall scheme could eventually host up to 270,000 sq ft of commercial space and office space, alongside a public square and 140 parking spaces alongside the apartment complex. The expected date for apartments available to rent is some time in 2018 with work expected to begin in the new year.
