The phase for the redevelopment of the former factory site is set to see new offices and apartments to be built in the Quarter.

Known as the former Birmingham Mint, plans have been submitted to regenerate a vacant plot of land on the corner of Icknield Street and Carver Street into 13 one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats along with 2,769 sq ft of ground floor office space and a car park to hold 20 spaces.

The new-build property, named Mint 8A, is set to have five storeys and include a roof-level penthouse apartment.

Architecture firm, COS Design and Build, based in Staffordshire are responsible for the latest phase of the project and expect work to begin on the site towards the end of the year or early 2016.

The Birmingham Mint was initially established in 1794 by a man named Ralph Heaton and in some moment in time was actually the largest in the world.
In 1982, the building was awarded it’s Grade II listed status.

Plans had been lodged in the early 2000’s, the scheme only being restarted 4 years ago. Only in the summer of 2013 was the planning permission granted to renovate a certain section of the mint that fronts onto Icknield Street, commonly referred to as Mint 4.
